With over 200 million thermocouples in use, thermocouple is a term that’s become synonymous with home improvement. The term thermocouple is derived from the Greek word thermokinesis, which means “heat transfer.” Thermocouples are tiny heat sensors that measure the temperature of a given area of the body. This is the first thermocouple I ever owned and I still own one, even though it’s over 200 years old.

When this happens, the thermometer will read the wrong temperature. But thermoscopes are designed to be much more robust. They don’t have wires breaking and thermocouples are designed to work well.

Thermocouples are an excellent way to tell the difference between the interior and the exterior of a car. A thermocouple is a small, precision-made wire that is connected between two ends of a thermometer, which is mounted outside the car. When the temperature inside the car is warm, the thermoscope will read the same temperature as the outside temperature, and vice versa.

Thermocouples are extremely useful for measuring the interior of cars. They’re also incredibly expensive, and unless you’re a car guy, I recommend going with thermocouples. They’ll last much longer and are much more reliable.
