I just recently moved into a new home and had my basement remodeled. The contractor worked hard to make the basement as neat, clean, and organized as possible – to a level that was no doubt intimidating to most homeowners.
This is important because it shows that the contractor is good at his job. Cleanliness and organization are the main ranking factors in search results for consumers. So if you want your website to rank high in search, you would, of course, want to keep your home organized.
Well, while I agree that neat, clean, and organized are important to search ranking, the contractor who did the remodel wasn’t really good at his job. In fact, he was pretty awful at it.
I’m not sure exactly how this happened, but a few weeks ago, we started to notice a distinct lack of attention to detail from our contractor. I also noticed some odd things like he was always on the phone with some other contractor, and I also noticed he never showed up after hours to work on the house.
Basically, he was doing his job, but he was not in a way that was making sure it was executed well. I remember a couple of weeks ago I was trying to find out if the basement was dry, and as soon as I walked in the basement he was already there, sitting on the floor, doing something. I asked him if the basement was dry, and he said no, and I said, well, that seemed to be a lie, and he just started laughing at me.
This is not the first time I’ve seen a contractor take charge of a project and not show up to start it. It’s not even the first time a contractor has been caught doing things that made me wonder if he wasn’t a little bit out of it. If you ever have the opportunity to watch a contractor doing something that makes you wonder if he wasn’t a little bit out of it, go for it. It’s one of the best ways to learn how to be a contractor.
As always, people don’t know how much they don’t know until they’ve been around people who don’t know how much they don’t know. I think that is a good rule to follow when working with contractors.
I’ve been watching the video of a basement remodel that was done in our own home and I thought it was hilarious. The contractor was not a very good contractor, and since we were buying the house, we were not in the position to hire him. So he was not paying attention to our needs and instead of doing what we wanted him to do, he was in the basement trying to do it himself.
This is the part when I have to stop and tell you that I have the most respect for the basement remodel. I had to stop and think about what it would be like to be in the basement of my own home.
