As you know from living in Colorado, I am passionate about remodeling. I am a very hands-on person, and I love working with individuals and families to create a new home. I like to create a home that you and I are proud of.
This past season I have been asked to remodel a new home in Colorado Springs. As I was putting together the floorplans, I found myself thinking, “I really like this design. I don’t know. I like it.” I have always been attracted to a certain style of homes and I decided to create my own. I felt that this style was a lot more interesting than the typical home that I am usually creating.
This is a common mistake that I see on homeowners as they begin to design and build their new homes. They start with a “what do I want my home to look like?” question but without any reference to the purpose of this home. Instead, they just pick a color, a style, and a space and the rest is up to them. That’s a mistake because it’s all about what you want to look like.
The reason for this is because there is no objective yardstick. When a homeowner is building a home, they are making a statement about their future, their lifestyle, and perhaps the lifestyle and style of their family. Thats it, you have to decide what you want. You can’t really use colors or finishes or a style to reference itself.
This is why you will do an incredible job with a contractor, because its all about what you want to look like. The homeowner is not trying to impress anyone in particular but their own self by the way they look. Its all about making the home you want, which is not necessarily the home of your dreams, but your own version of it. So if you have a budget, youll want to make sure the contractors you hire create homes that reflect that budget.
