I’ve always been a fan of wood siding. There are so many beautiful ways to build it, but the biggest draw for me is the peace of mind that comes with knowing that my house and that I’m building a wood home that is designed for privacy. It’s also important to me to have a place to call my own. Whether it’s a guest room or a home office, I want my house to feel like my own space.
As I’ve mentioned before, the cost of wood siding is incredibly expensive. You can find a lot of cheap, low quality siding at garage sales, but you still have to pay the premium for wood siding. The difference between cheap and premium wood siding is often found in the quality and finish.
The quality of the siding can be as much a design feature as it is a function. Even if the finished product is not that nice, the quality of the wood and the style of the siding make a huge difference. If you decide to build your home with wood panels, you should be choosing a brand that has been tested to see if their product will last. The more of a premium grade siding that you can find, the better.
As a contractor, I use Sperry (and other) products all the time, but I’m not a fan of the finish on low-pile, wood siding. It can look pretty nice, but it’s very prone to discoloration if you don’t do a good job on it.
Since the siding is exposed to the elements, you don’t want the siding to be too warm and dry. You want the siding to dry quickly and look its best. I like to use a product called “Sperry”. It is a very low-pile, high-density fiber that has great wear resistance and is very easy to install. It is very versatile.

I really like this because it is what I have been using for my whole life. I use it to seal everything, including the siding on my deck and doors. I put it on both sides of the roof of my house. You can use it in the garage as well.
Sperry Home Siding Systems are basically just the same thing as regular wood siding, but they are low-pile, and denser. So for most of the house you will be able to replace siding with the same process you use on your own home.
You can buy them by the width of the board and length. I know this makes no sense, but my entire home is one long slab of wood. If you want to remove siding, you have to cut it from a different part of the house. That’s not a big problem, but it does mean you have to make sure you’re going to use it. Because the siding on a house is more permanent than most homes.
