Home remodeling is a pretty popular topic amongst the home building crowd, which leads me to believe that they’re probably pretty familiar with the idea of home remodeling. I can only imagine that they’ve heard the same arguments I have, so I thought I’d put some of them in writing to help you decide if you should do it.
The first problem to consider when remodeling is that you wont have any carpets or hardwoods, so youll basically be running around with bare wood floors. Also, if you do get walls or ceilings, theyll be bare of plaster, so the actual construction of your house will be minimal. One big advantage to this is that you can change out whatever you want, and with a bare floor you can just do the plumbing and electrical.
The other big win here is that youll be able to buy your own materials. This is HUGE because youll be able to make your own flooring, countertops and even your own cabinets. But youll need to be careful here, because most of them are made of cheap materials that will scratch the flooring and look cheap. The good news is that there are a few good brands to look for here, so you can get some nice products that will last a long time.
While it’s still in beta, I’d say that the best time to start your home remodeling project is when you’re still in the process of getting your home built. This means you need to be thinking about what you want your new home to look like when it’s finished, because you don’t want to keep building a home and then find out you don’t like it after it’s done. Once you have all the details down, you’re ready to start building the home.
This is a good way to get some cool stuff that will last a long time. Ive been in the home building business for almost 10 years now, and Ive learned a lot about how things really work.
