At the same time, if youre a contractor you should realize that you can make a lot of money if you sell your work to contractors. You should never, ever, ever charge a contractor more than you would for your own work.
The key word for contractors is “never.” If contractors charge you more than they would for their own work you will never get their work. There are two types of contractors that have bad reputations: ones that charge a lot and ones that charge little. The ones who charge a lot of money are typically called “salaried” contractors. Their primary job is to provide a steady stream of work to their clients.
The contractor that does the work for you comes in a variety of shapes and colors. Some simply provide a great service but charge only a fraction of what their competitors charge. Some are “specialists” who have great clients but charge a lot more than their competitors. Some are large companies that are more like high-end general contractors. They have a well-defined job description and may charge you more than your competitors.

When I went to a realtor’s office in Australia, a big part of their job was to help me figure out the best price for a house where I wouldn’t be able to afford it, and they were the ones who sold me on that house.
