Fhia is a custom home building firm in the southern California area. They specialize in remodeling, but their remodeling work is so good that it is hard to believe that they aren’t actually construction. I was amazed at the level of detail and care that went into the remodeling I saw.
They seem to be doing a lot of remodeling here in the bay area, and because of that I am constantly surprised at the quality of work that is being done. It looks like you can get some really amazing looking homes at a pretty cheap price. I just can’t imagine someone being so meticulous with their work.

You will often find that the contractor is the designer and engineer, and the contractor is the craftsman. This is because a lot of contractor work is for a single home. The problem is that when you start going beyond the scope of a single home, you will find that the contractor is not doing nearly enough good work. Most contractors are good about taking a risk and going for the biggest piece of work possible.
The problem is that if you do it right, a contractor will usually do a great job. If you are doing a lot of work and there is not enough supervision, then you might end up with a substandard job. In a small home, that would be a big problem. So if you think a contractor is the best choice for remodeling, keep in mind that you are also taking on the tasks of the contractor and getting a substandard result.
