I knew this funeral home was a place I wouldn’t want to be. The staff at the gossen funeral home is like an army, and they are the best. They make your funeral seem like a fun day at the mall.
For the last 10 years, the gossen funeral home has been the place of choice for us. We have been to theirs several times and they always make us feel like we are at our favorite restaurant after a long day at work. It’s an establishment that is so easy to fall in love with that we would rather hire it to be our funeral home than buy a new funeral home.

The other companies that are doing the same thing out of the same building include the funeral parlour, the casket company, and the gravesite company. The gossen funeral home is the only one that is still open and is run by the same family. The other funeral parlours in town are all full of people who are either retired, selling the business, or have gone into business for themselves.
The gossen funeral home is an impressive building, but it’s also a bit creepy. There was a time when the building was a funeral parlor, run by a couple who also ran the casket company. The family was pretty tight-lipped about the business, but it was enough that the building was still intact and still a funeral parlour until the early 2000’s. After that, the building started to fall into disrepair.
Gossen funeral homes are fairly common in Japan. Most are fairly old, and a number of them have become quite popular in the US. I didn’t have much luck finding a gossen funeral home in the UK, but the one I did do find was a fairly big, drab, and old building with an oddly empty lot near the water.
So if you’re looking for one of these, get in touch with your local building department. Also, in Japan, funeral homes are called kansai-ji.
To be fair, gossen funeral homes are a fairly common type of funeral home. The Japanese are quite strict about cremation, and that’s something we would probably have to deal with if we were in their country. One of our clients, who’s from Australia, has a gossen funeral home in the US with beautiful gardens and a lovely garden-level terrace on the property. It’s nice, and I bet it would be a lot more popular here.
