I’m a girl who loves to clean up. I’m also a girl who is very crafty when it comes to doing simple things around the house. I’m so good at figuring out what just needs to be done and then doing it! I am a firm believer in the “do it before you’re ready” philosophy.
One day my father was renovating a bathroom and I was asked to help. I was told to do it before its too late and that I was to start stripping and sweeping all the water out from the walls and floor and ceilings.
I had a pretty good idea what I was in for, but I was still extremely nervous. It turned out to be an easy task and I ended up being the one to help my father. It was really fun working with him, I learned a lot, and had a lot of fun. I also learned a lot about bathroom remodeling. I have since done my own bathroom and also have a friend who has a similar interest.
The bathroom remodeling process is actually pretty simple. The first step is figuring out if you want to do a new or a remodeling. When you decide you want to do a remodel, you can start with the materials. We’re not going to try and teach you the fundamentals of how to do a new bathroom.
If you do decide to do a new bathroom, you first need to decide on what style you are going to use. There is no right or wrong type of bathroom. My husband and I both have a style called “lucite”. It is a combination of a dark color, brown, and black. It is very classic in appearance, with lots of glass and chrome details. It is one of those bathrooms that seems to be very well liked and used.
Well then, I guess my question is this: How do you go about finding the right materials? I am hoping to do a kitchen remodel in the next few weeks, and I am really digging the kitchen in my new home.
The first step in planning a bathroom remodel is to determine if you are willing to do it with or without a contractor. Most of us are already in the process of renovating our current kitchen and bathroom, so this is easy to do in our own time. You can also check out the website of the Kitchen Remodeling Association (check out the links) to see if you are interested in the trade.
I have to admit that the DIY craze is taking over and I’m not really sure how to make it work. The bathroom remodeling community is really interested in the idea of doing it yourself, however, we have a few things to consider.
First, there are a lot of us who are already remodeling the bathroom and other rooms to save money. This is great, especially if you are a woman because, for the first time in your life, you don’t have to wash the dishes and clean up after your children. You don’t have to mop from the bathrooms to the tub. And you don’t have to wash the sheets and towels, either. You don’t have to put the laundry away either.
But, is it really a good idea to have to do this yourself? You can save money and your time. It is also a lot of fun. But, does it really feel right that we have to go through the hassle of doing this ourselves, even if it makes our lives easier for the time being? We have heard horror stories from other friends.
