These baseboards are my favorite DIY project ever. I have seen them done before on this website, but am most intrigued by these. I love the idea of using an old door or closet door, and putting up some shelves. I have a couple of friends that want a place for their coffee and computer, and I think this will make the perfect fit.
I used to think that you could do this project yourself, but I’ve been doing it for a long time now, and it’s not really that hard. I just have to make sure that the door is old enough that it won’t fall apart.
It sounds easy, but I find it hard to believe that you could find one that was as old as you said it was, as well as being able to get the shelves up. Thats the biggest problem. The first thing you will have to do is remove the door. This is a big project, but here is a really simple way to do it. You will need some small pieces of wood to use as a template that you will cut out.
If you do not have access to a saw, you can use a circular saw to cut the door. The circular saw is just a lot faster and easier, but this will not work with all doors. You will also need to cut out a small piece of wood for each shelf that you will need.
To start, you will need to cut out three pieces of wood. The first piece should be a template of the exact size of the door. The second piece of wood is the same size as the door you want to cut out, but this time it needs to be a slightly thicker edge. The third piece of wood is the exact size of the door you want to cut out, but this time it will need to be slightly thinner, it will just need to be slightly larger.
To get the template and the piece of wood for the door you want to cut, look for a woodworking store. There are lots of places that make them, and the majority of the time you will find that the salesperson will come and cut the wood for you for an extra 10% off, even if it’s just for a few weeks.
There are a lot of companies out there who will cut your wood, but when you get to it, they will charge you, even if its just by the piece of wood. One place I used to work for made me an extra $35 off per piece of wood, but these days that’s about $60.
The good thing about buying your wood from a local shop is that you can usually find out exactly how long it will last. Another plus is that you will often find that the shop will charge you extra for their wood, even if they do make it, which is great for people on a budget. In my experience wood is harder to cut than say steel, and harder to do repair work on.
I believe that if someone said to you, “I want you to cut a piece of wood into a certain length, and then glue it together so that it’s a certain width,” you would be surprised the number of people that would agree. Cutting a piece of wood into a certain length is just a matter of cutting the right size of the blade into the right depth, and having a good glue.
I’ve always been a big fan of this concept, the idea of a “woody” type of building. I remember when I was in college, I spent a semester in a wood shop and it was the only thing I had. I built my first house out of pallets and I really liked the look of wood. It seemed so simple and clean.
