I am a member of one of the “One Call Home” group of remodeling groups. This group has been on the scene for the last five years. This group includes a professional designer, a contractor, a general contractor, and a project manager, each with their own team and each dedicated to finding a solution. These members have different goals, which is good, because they are all looking for the same thing.
One Call remodeling is an example of a group that works with a couple different contractors. It works with the professional designer because his goal is to find a single solution, and the general contractor because his goal is to get a cost savings based on the project he’s working on. The project manager is actually the most important person to this group.
The project manager is the person who can make the group come to a common agreement on what the project is going to cost. He is also the person who has the ultimate authority over the project, since it is his project.
If you can’t find a way to save money, don’t call him. If you can’t work with him, don’t call him. If you can’t find a budget and he can’t make it any lower, don’t call him.
What happens when a project manager is not in control? Projects can go sideways really quickly, especially if they’ve been budgeted correctly. If you’re lucky enough to have a project manager who can make this happen, don’t call him unless you have something really important that needs your approval.
I’m not sure how much this is a “project” about which he needs your approval, but you know where I’m going with this. While it is a project, if you don’t approve it, the project will probably fall apart.
Many times you dont know who to call. In our case, we were going to remodel our kitchen. But, the project manager was late and we had to wait until the end of the month to schedule it. So, instead of calling, we called our local one-call home remodeling group and asked if they had any projects they might have.
This sounds like a good idea for a remodel – if you don’t know anyone or have a project you’re trying to run, call a local group. If something comes up that’s more important than remodeling, call us. There are usually a lot of projects that can be scheduled with a one-call group, so this is another good idea.
It’s always great to have a group of people you can call on during construction work. If you go into a project with the expectation that everyone else will be calling you, you might be surprised to hear that they don’t always make calls. When you get a project going, you will have to make sure that everyone is on board.
We started an affordable one-call remodeling group in New Jersey, but recently we have moved to Chicago, and we are starting a new group of our own. It’s been a lot of fun working with a group of people who share similar interests and have similar goals. We have a lot of fun talking about all the different trends in materials the home industry is using. We also get a lot of questions about how to price and how to budget for remodeling projects.
