I am so grateful to my friend, Barbara Brown of the Huffington Post who has been publishing the “obituaries” of some of the most incredible women in the world. Each year she compiles the best of the best and I try to read one from each year.
My favorite one of all time is the one about the mulhearn funeral home. The mulhearn funeral home was founded in 1906 by a man named A. P. Mulhearn who was born in 1871 and had a couple of very famous relatives. His first wife, Clara, is buried there. His second wife, Lizzie, is buried in the cemetery. I have no idea why no one else has that story, but I love it.
Mulhearn’s son, Charles, was one of John F. Kennedy’s bodyguards during his assassination attempt. He also worked for a family that owned the funeral home. Mulhearn died in 1951 when he was only 45 years old.
Apparently this funeral home was the home of the famous John F. Kennedy, Jr., who died of cancer in 1961. The Mulhearn funeral home was the scene of Kennedy’s assassination.
The Mulhearn funeral homes have been famous for their many services to Kennedy and JFK Jr, but it sounds like they were the home of the famous John F. Kennedy, Jr., and the Mulhearn funeral home was his only home. Now that might sound like a coincidence, but the Mulhearn funeral home has hosted many dignitaries over the years. The JFK family loved to entertain guests at their home.
If you think the Kennedy family would be too shocked at your funeral if you showed up dressed in what was deemed at the time to be “appropriate mourning attire” you are wrong. The Kennedy family was famously secretive. They would never be so open about the fact that they had the body of a President they had loved and lost.
In a way, that is sort of a compliment. The Kennedy family was also incredibly secretive about the fact that they had a body after they lost their beloved President. They would only allow their loved ones to see them after they were dead. But now that he is dead, they are happy to let you make your own funeral arrangements.
I just wish they would have opened up their private home to us. That was one of the best parts of the Kennedy’s funeral.
But like I said, it’s not a compliment. It’s just that when the family was cremated the house was left in darkness. The family were extremely tight-lipped about the fact that they had a body, and they could never really explain why they were keeping it from everyone. Now that it is dead, they are willing to let you make your own funeral arrangements.
The Kennedys are buried in the church’s graveyard. If you can’t visit their gravesite yourself, there are plenty of funeral homes that can provide you with a pre-paid memorial. However, most of them are booked up all the time, so if you want to arrange your own, you need to make an appointment.
