From my perspective, I do not believe that this is an either/or situation. My advice is to keep it simple and go with what you want. If you want a more expensive look, start with a more expensive paint job. If you want a more affordable remodel look, start with a less expensive paint job.
The first step in this decision is to figure out what you want to accomplish with your new home. In my opinion, it should be a home that people will love and people will want to spend time in. Make sure that it fits your personality and your budget and you’ll be on your way to a beautiful new home.
In the beginning, before you decide on a paint color, you should determine what type of finish you want. I’ll get into this a little bit further in the next section, but the first step in making that determination is to determine if you’re going to paint it yourself or you’re going to use a contractor. The best thing about using a contractor is that your job is done.
There are two basic types of painting contractors out there. The first is the semi-skilled contractor. These are the guys that have a master’s degree in painters. They use heavy equipment and paint thinner to paint the interior and exterior of your home. These are also very expensive. The semi-skilled painter will also do the interior painting on the house first, but then will paint the exterior first.
The last type of contractor is the expert. This is the guy who has the degrees in both painting and construction. The expert painter will paint the entire house, the interior and exterior, with no heavy equipment. Even if you hired an expert, they may be overworked. The expert is in a profession where working is second nature to them. They will use only a small brush, so they may have to work faster than a semi-skilled painter.
If you hire an expert to paint your house, you may need to hire a licensed interior painter.
This is a tricky one to decide. For me, it’s not a matter of what type of painting you enjoy, but if you enjoy painting. If you don’t enjoy painting, then the hiring of a licensed interior painter may be the smartest decision. There is no right or wrong answer here. It comes down to the painting being in your comfort zone.
Your own preferences are important, so hire a painting contractor only if you feel comfortable working with them. If you only hire an interior painter for one room in your house, then choose an interior painter who has experience in the area. Also, ask about the painting contractor’s experience working with the same type of material as you.
